Groupon account problems: access, vouchers and lockouts

Losing access to an account usually means losing sight of vouchers you have already paid for. In most cases nothing has been deleted — it is sitting in an account you are not currently signed in to.

You cannot sign in

Start with the sign-in method rather than the password. If the account was originally created with Google, Facebook or Apple, an email-and-password attempt will fail even though the email address is correct, and a password reset will create the impression that no account exists. Try each option in turn with the same address.

If a reset email never arrives, check spam and any forwarding rules, then confirm the address has no typo — a single wrong character at signup is the reason many accounts appear to vanish. Where the address itself is no longer accessible, recovery has to be done with proof of purchase instead: a bank statement line showing a Groupon charge and the voucher number from an old confirmation email.

Vouchers are missing from My Groupons

Search your email for the purchase confirmation. The address it was delivered to is the account that holds the voucher, and that is often an older personal address or one attached to a social login used once at checkout.

Also check the filters on the My Groupons page. Redeemed, expired and gifted items are separated from active ones, and a voucher marked as redeemed by a merchant will not appear in the default view. If a voucher shows as redeemed on a date you did not visit, that is a redemption dispute rather than an account problem.

The account is locked, restricted or closed

Automatic restrictions are triggered by patterns rather than decisions: several declined payments in a row, a chargeback raised with your bank, a sudden burst of purchases, or sign-ins from an unfamiliar device or country. The account is not deleted and vouchers inside it remain valid.

Lifting a restriction is an identity exercise. Expect to confirm the registered email, the last four digits of the card used, and the details of a recent order. If a chargeback caused the lock, resolving the dispute with your bank has to happen first — the restriction will not be lifted while the money is contested.

Duplicate accounts and shared devices

Duplicates build up when a household shares a device or when checkout is completed as a guest. Vouchers and credit can generally be moved into the single account you want to keep, which is safer than trying to remember which login held which deal.

Before requesting a move, list the email addresses involved and the voucher numbers you want transferred. Requests that name specific vouchers are handled far more quickly than a general complaint about missing deals.

Step-by-step

  1. 1Try every sign-in method — password, Google, Facebook, Apple — with the same email address.
  2. 2Search your inbox for a Groupon confirmation to find which address owns the voucher.
  3. 3Check the redeemed, expired and gifted tabs in My Groupons before reporting a voucher missing.
  4. 4For a locked account, gather the registered email, card ending and a recent order number.
  5. 5Submit a request listing the accounts and voucher numbers involved so access or credit can be restored.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I not log in to my Groupon account?
The most frequent cause is signing in with a different method than the one used to register — for example email and password when the account was created through a social login. Try each sign-in option with the same email address before assuming the account is gone.
My vouchers are missing from My Groupons. Where did they go?
Missing vouchers almost always sit in a second account created with a different email address or a social login. Search your inbox for the original purchase confirmation and check which address it was sent to; that is the account holding the voucher.
Why is my Groupon account locked or restricted?
Accounts are usually restricted automatically after repeated failed payments, a chargeback, an unusual volume of purchases, or a login from an unrecognised location. Restrictions are reversible once identity and payment ownership are confirmed.
Can I merge two Groupon accounts?
Accounts cannot be merged, but vouchers and credit can often be moved from one to the other so everything sits in the account you actually use. Provide both email addresses and the voucher numbers when you ask.
